IDEA3S
Integrating Design, Engineering, and Architecture to Search for Sustainable Solutions ( IdEA3S )
At IDEA3S, we are addressing engineered socio-technical systems to discover sustainable solutions, particularly in the face of challenges like climate change. Accomplishing these multifaceted and intricate tasks demands interdisciplinary methods, including management to strategize, plan, and coordinate limited resources in order to converge toward the objectives. Our goal is to minimize the environmental effects of projects across their lifecycle while also prioritizing the well-being of stakeholders.
A Holistic approach to building engineering, encompassing design, construction, operation, and waste management
The IDEA3S research group employs a diverse range of tools and techniques, including incubators for growing bacteria, the semantic web for automated communication, energy simulators, and protocol design for qualitative research. This enables them to tackle each unique project with proper requirements analysis and management, ensuring success. In response to the growing trend of digital transformation, with 72% of construction companies prioritizing it, IDEA3S is also developing new systems and software to improve productivity and efficiency in automated decision-making for engineering, construction, and facilities management. The group also recognizes the importance of utilizing low-carbon and local materials in construction, dedicating teams to developing environmentally friendly construction materials using microbiological concepts, bio-based resources, and compressed earth blocks to reduce buildings’ carbon footprints. Additionally, IDEA3S focuses on promoting sustainable building design practices that minimize energy consumption and waste, improve indoor air quality, and reduce environmental impacts throughout the life cycle of a building
