Ali Shafaat is an Assistant Professor of Construction at Shahid Beheshti University’s Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning. Ali holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Purdue University in addition to master’s degrees in Industrial Engineering (from Texas A&M University) and Geotechnical Engineering (from the University of Tehran). He is passionate about sustainable design, construction, and management. At this stage, his primary focus is directed toward research within the domains of engineering design, building energy (Building Sciences), architecture technology, engineering education, and construction project management. Ali teaches a range of courses at both Shahid Beheshti University’s faculty of architecture and Amirkabir University’s civil engineering department, including Econometrics (for transportation engineering), Infrastructure health monitoring (for HSE), project planning and control (for construction management), and advanced building systems (for architecture technology).
As the director of IDEA3S, Dr. Shafaat leads a team of passionate researchers who are dedicated to integrating design, engineering, and architecture to find sustainable solutions for the built environment. His work has the potential to increase construction projects’ sustainability and create more environmentally-friendly buildings. His hands-on experience in the field has given him a realistic perspective on the challenges faced by the industry and the potential solutions.
Ali has had the opportunity to gain experience in various sectors of the construction industry, including financing, residential/office buildings, industrial, offshore, and nearshore constructions. As a seasoned project engineer turned manager, Ali has a deep understanding of the intricacies involved in managing large-scale construction projects from start to finish. Ali’s knowledge and years of experience have enabled him to offer consulting services in investment, design, and management to various companies.
Ali’s commitment to sustainability extends beyond his research. He is actively involved in promoting sustainable practices within his community through various initiatives such as organizing workshops on sustainable building practices and participating in community outreach programs that promote environmental awareness.
